Trust the process
So tonight for the first time my daughter put herself to sleep.
This afternoon for the first time I am getting traction on working the horses.
Two things that I have been circling around for quite awhile. Pushing... no... setting up for yes. My daughter has her own bed, I have horse and all the things I need to work them... and yet nada. No daughter sleeping in her own bed, no horses getting worked.
So what changed?
Life became ready.
I have no better explanation than that. Yes I did the work to set up for 'success' (the bed, the horses). That was important and I'm not going to minimise that, and yes I totally could have 'pushed' for it all to happen earlier... but I'm glad I didn't.
When it did happen I was reminded that gestation is important, things often do come to pass as we wish when we set up the conditions of success, and get out of the way.
Trusting that process can be really hard however, and I have had many a moment on the way to today thinking 'will it ever?'. Will I ever get to working the horses again? Will my daughter ever put herself to bed?
But tonight I was reminded of the beauty that is 'trusting the process': set up those conditions of success, tend to them and be patient.
It can be really hard... but I would suggest it is much less harder than 'pushing'.
